Foothills library closing

Desert Foothills Library will be closed Sept. 1‑9. There will be no programs or passport service during this time.

Boy Scouts and volunteers will be moving the contents in storage containers and the collections into the new addition. Computer and phone lines will be moved as well as all usable furniture.

Sept.10 will be business as usual from the new quarters. The temporary new entrance will be on the east patio. The parking lot will still be under construction remodeling of the original building will start. The entire construction project should be completed before the end of the year.

Late fees for any books or other items due during this period will be waived.

Church classes offered

Northwest Valley Baptist Church will start the Kids 4 Truth clubs program at 7 p.m on Sept. 5.  Kids 4 Truth is a children’s program for kids age 3 through grade 6 that utilizes a lesson time, a TruthBook time, a song time and a reward time in order to fortify educate young people in the essential teachings of the Christian faith.

Starting September 9, NVB will be piloting new adult Bible studies during regular Sunday school hours, in addition to the existing Sunday school programs for children of all ages.  The adult Bible studies will be focusing on the book of Ephesians in round‑table settings, with various focus groups including men, women, seniors and couples.

Sunday school is from 9:35 to 10:30 a.m. Child care is provided during Sunday school and services.

PVCC offers new continuing ed courses

In addition to its usual offerings, adult learners now have a choice of more than 30 new continuing education classes on the Paradise Valley Community College campus and 24 new noncredit online classes.

Among these are popular classes in language conversation, art, business skills, photography and computers.

Some new classes for fall are: Online Dating 101; Enhance Your Memory, Energize Your Mind; and Life, the Universe & Everything.

Other new selections include: The 7 Steps of Manifestation, How to Be a Blackjack Winner, and Introduction to Neuro‑Linguistic Psychology.

New online programs include: Cisco, Homeland Security and Trade and Industrial Operations and Programs along with many more.

PVCC’s fall schedule for continuing education is available and registration for classes is in progress. Area residents can call to receive the fall schedule or they can visit the Continuing Education Web site at paradisevalley.edu/ce.

PTA meeting

The Sunset Ridge PTA will have their meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 4 at 3:30 p.m. in the Sunset Ridge Library, 35707 N. 33rd Lane, Phoenix.

Basic training

Sunset Ridge will be holding a volunteer training class on Thursday, September 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Sunset Ridge Library, 35707 N. 33rd Lane, Phoenix.

Basic training is a “must‑have” for all of those individuals, including parents, who donate time and/or services in schools or with students on a regular or recurring basis. If you attended Basic Training last year, you need not repeat it. Basic Training lasts approximately one hour and 20 minutes and you will receive all necessary materials.  Additional training dates and times may be viewed by visiting the Parent Program section of the Deer Valley Web site at dvusd.org.
