SCOTTSDALE
– Lisa Sakellarides is in a bind.
The
Scottsdale resident is suffering from a serious form of
ovarian cancer and needs help.
A
group of her friends, including the Scottsdale‑based
band Outcry, has come together to try and raise money
to ease the financial burden created by lack of medical
insurance and extensive treatment.
Lisa
ran her own administrative assistant business and three
years ago, she was diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer.
Her prognosis was considered so severe that some doctors
declined to treat her.
Her
response to treatment surpassed all her doctors’ expectations
and she went into remission. In a few months, she was
back on her feet leading a normal life.
Having
fought off ovarian cancer once, Lisa couldn’t afford health
insurance, so the expense of treatment has mounted and
is expected to exceed $100,000.
Outcry
has produced its first CD, titled “Outcry,” and pledged
all profits to Lisa. Their music is reggae‑influenced
pop rock with an upbeat message. They’ve also staged a
CD release party charging a $5 door fee to donate as well.

Friends
have also put on massive garage sales, as well as simply
asking people they know to pitch in whatever they could
for Lisa’s cause.
Lisa’s
circle has done some creative financing as well. Treatment
is a combination of holistic medicine and chemotherapy,
and because it can’t wait, friends have taken out loans
to cover immediate medical treatment while additional
funds are raised. Payments on the loans are made collectively
by the group to ensure no one person is left bearing the
burden.
