On
Friday night while driving home from work, one of
the tires on my Ford Explorer burst on Cave Creek
Road just south of Tatum Boulevard. I managed to
get over to the side of the road and call the Ford
24‑hour Roadside Assistance hotline. After
being on hold for more than 10 minutes, I was told
that my coverage had expired one month ago. I hung
up, frustrated and almost on the edge of tears,
wondering how I was going to get home to Glendale
when in my rearview mirror I saw a works truck pull
up.
The
works truck was driven by a good samaritan who told
me that he could help me and proceeded to change
my tire. I felt helpless and overwhelmed by the
generosity of this man. He told me that he had passed
me as I was pulling off to the side of the road
and said to himself, if I was still there when he
came back, he would help me.
True
to his word, he came back. He told me that he always
said that it could be his wife off to the side of
the road and he would hope that someone would stop
for her. I asked if I could give him something for
his time to which he replied, “pay it forward.”
The
good samaritan’s name is Nelson (Nel) Broce Jr.,
he is a senior inspector with Desert State Home
Inspections. Thank you Nel!
