On
music in America today
I
just want to thank you for the article by Ken LaFave
(“DNA of current American culture,” July 4, 2007)
on music and what is happening in America today. It
was so well written and so very true.
I
have been involved in music and singing all my life,
doing many of the masters’ works as well as pop music,
and I love it all. I am so concerned about the classics
disappearing because of the lack of education in many
schools. And, as stated, people who really don’t know
much about music can be the judge of what is good
and what is not.
I
am happy for Mr. Potts, but of course he is not great
and has to work up to that. I am so grateful for people
like Josh Grobin and Andre Bocelli. They are bringing
beautiful music to people of all ages, and it is so
important that they are exposed to it. Of course,
they are only beginning an education in the best of
music.

Again, thanks for your insights. Your article was
great.
