Falcons trying to break skid
by Jason Stone

CCUSD – With the playoffs right around the corner, Cactus Shadows’ softball team needs a win in a bad way.

The Falcons dropped games against Bradshaw Mountain and Sunnyslope last week to carry a four‑game losing streak into this week. Cactus Shadows (2‑12 overall, 1‑4 Wells Fargo 2 Region) is running out of time to make up ground in the region.

With seven games left, the Falcons are in fourth place, four games behind first‑place Sunnyslope, the No. 1 ranked team in 4A‑Division II. Sunnyslope pounded Cactus Shadows 11‑0 last week as six Falcons errors turned a 3‑0 deficit in the fifth inning into a rout.

“Hitting will ultimately win the games for us,” coach Danica Gianni said. “But we need consecutive hits and smart base running to achieve this goal.”
